Hello All,
Attached is the May BCSB newsletter which includes news from the broader CA bonsai community, and important updates and reminders about our 49th Annual Bonsai exhibition, May 16th and 17th. I’ve also included the copy of the rack card about the show.
We are still looking for volunteers — I know many of you just show up — that’s great!! But it helps our planning to know that we have the different shifts covered during the show, so please let me know if you can help and when.
We need help:
- with set-up on Monday, May 15th, 1pm until we are finished. If you come then, you must go to the front desk in the foyer and sign in. This is part of the school’s security protocol. During set-up, we need backdrops steamed, table cloths put out, signs set up, tokonoma put together. There’s lots to do.
- with greeting guests on Saturday and Sunday, orient them to the layout of the show and vendors, tell them about the demonstrations, point out the bathrooms, tell them about BCSB, and our sponsors. We’re asking for 2-hour shifts – 10am to noon, noon to 2pm, 2pm to 4pm.
- with the checkout table to complete sales, sell memberships, help with beginner workshop sign-ups. Asking for 2-hour shifts both days.
- with tear-down at the end of Sunday, 4pm. All hands on deck!
If you are submitting a tree in the show, we ask you to bring your tree(s) on Friday, if at all possible. This will really help us get a jump on things, as Saturday morning tends to be hectic. If you can’t bring your trees until Saturday, no problem! We will already be ahead.
I have also attached the sales form, if you are interested in selling items at our club sales table. Please — bring bonsai-related items, only! I will have more sales forms and stickers on Friday and throughout the show.
We also have a “trees-in-training” table. Please consider bringing a tree that is the process of training — this very effectively illustrates the training process and helps our guests grasp aspects of the art of bonsai. If you bring a tree, we will have cards for you to fill out your name, the name of the tree, and the years of training.
Finally, I still have a big stack of rack cards. We could really use help distributing them — let me know if you need some! Please hlep spread the word and bring your family and friends.
Am I forgetting anything? Let me know!
Looking forward to seeing all of you at the show!
Gwen
