Dear BCSB members and friends,
Welcome to February, the shortest month of the year, and hopefully a rainy one. Attached is our February club newsletter. Thanks, Sebastian, for pulling together all need-to-know information and list of upcoming events both in our club and in the greater bonsai community. Thanks, Fran, for photos of the inspiring workshop conducted by Young Choe last Monday.
Things to note:
1. The February 15th workshop is a club workshop, which is a follow-up to the club meeting on February 11 – we hope all of you will attend both. We will work on the club’s guardian trees during the workshop, but it’s also a great day to bring your own trees to work on and to share your knowledge or questions with other club members. Don’t forget your tools!
2. The BCSB Board has been very busy behind the scenes, working on a membership directory (Thank you Diana and Daniel!), and the development of a mentorship program (Thank you Fran and Sofia!). Stay tuned.
3. If you haven’t already, please submit your 2025 membership dues! Send check, payable to Bonsai Club of Santa Barbara along with membership form (found on the BCSB website) to:
Diana Boydstun, Treasurer
Bonsai Club of Santa Barbara
12407 Saddle Ridge Court
Santa Rosa Valley, CA 93012
4. An exciting upcoming event, Bonsai-A-Thon, takes place at the Huntington, February 22 & 23. Paying members, (ahem, see number 3 above), of a recognized bonsai club are eligible for a free pass on either Saturday or Sunday, but you must visit the website and make your request by February 14th. Some of us are driving and willing to carpool…let Carol Hicks know if you are willing to drive a carpool or need a ride.
5. Shirley Quan of Baikoen Bonsai Club shared with us a video on Exploring Flowering Apricot, Prunus mume.
6. Finally…It won’t be long before spring is here and we will start planning for our May BCSB exhibition. Ann Erb has graciously agreed to continue her role as honorary chair to help with stands and staging of trees. However, the club very much needs an Exhibition Chair to run the logistics of the show. We are looking for a volunteer! If you are considering this, please let me know and I will be glad to meet with you and give you a rundown of the Chair duties and club members duties to support the Chair.
Looking forward to seeing you soon,
Gwen
